I loved this place and intend to go back. I got the 7-day stay/rent package, which included unlimited kite surf rental and a bedroom all to myself for a bargain price. The villa I stayed in is right on the beach, clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The owner was right next door and was available daily for questions or assistance. The vibe is open and relaxed and I made new friends even though I went solo. There are social gatherings a few times a week (taco night, burger night, going out to eat, etc.). The equipment was in great condition (mostly Core brand) and there was an air compressor for easy inflation. Couldn’t recommend more. The beach is great for beginners because it’s shallow, though when I went there were a lot of shells so you’ll want to be careful with your feet.
Amazing experience all around would 100% go back. The accommodation is very nice and right on the kite spot. The instructors are super helpful and everyone is super friendly which really elevated the experience. I would absolutely recommend once upon a kite
Excellent kite school with beautiful facilities. The villas are extremely attractive, and two of them are located directly on the beach. The kite instructors are very competent and friendly, and the spot is perfect for both beginners and advanced riders who want to have fun. The owner of the school is wonderful and often organizes activities for the guests, ensuring a relaxed and cool atmosphere at the school. We originally wanted to spend about 3-4 days there, but ended up staying for more than a week. We highly recommend it!

Have been back already twice, just love the spot, the vibe and the people! Beautifully setup kitehouses with a great community aspect. Living right at the spot! Can only recommend and for sure will be back again!
Beeing at Once Upon a Kite we felt welcomed and comfortable the first minute we arrived. The villas are beautiful, very clean, very good kitchen gadgets (never have seen such in any accomondation before), the volunteers and the owner were very kind and taking care of everything. The kite surfing was awesome right at the spot 1min from the villa. Thank you to Joana (owner) for hosting the lovely christmas dinner and cooking for us Loved all of it!
I stayed in Vila Zephyr, 2min walk from the beach. Really enjoyed it. Nice villa, with nice kitchen, comfy bed and room with airco. The spot is amazing to kite. Much space, big sandbank so perfect to learn. My instructor, Yesai, did a very good job and was really nice! Also the volunteers were great hosts! You can ask them anything and they are always happy to help out. The town itself is quit and relaxing. The center of progreso is 40min walk. I also did some cenote diving and the maya ruins are impressive to see.
As someone who’s been nomadic for the past four years, this is hands down one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. From the villas to the community, everything was genuinely perfect. First, I’m a newer kitesurfer, and the school at Once Upon A Kite was incredibly welcoming and supportive as I transitioned into being a more independent kiter. I took a few lessons and rented gear—everything was in excellent condition, and the instructors were not only extremely knowledgeable but also genuinely kind and encouraging. Now, the villas. The kitchens are fully stocked—blenders, air fryers, spices, you name it. The villas themselves are beautifully decorated, and despite only staying for a week, I felt completely at home. Lastly, the community is what truly makes this place special. I arrived as a guest and left feeling like family. There are plenty of organized dinners and easy opportunities to connect and spend time with others. A quick note on WiFi: I worked remotely during my stay and had no issues. There was one day with a few brief power outages (no more than about five minutes at a time), but that was a regional issue and completely outside the hosts’ control.
